Perfect for Running with PVS-14, great unit

Posted by Joseph Barnes on Sep 19th 2024

I have been using the sidekick 640 for about 2 months now. It’s very lightweight, and super easy to use. I’m partial to the detect setting because if you have an issue collimating the two picture into one, then this is the best thermal monocular. The detect shows heat in a bright orange, so it makes it very easy for your left eye to pick that up and then you can focus on it. The larger field of view makes scanning much easier. You can really save your neck because of this. I have used infiray and irusa products and this is by far my favorite. I love how you can move the screen horizontally and vertically to get it adjusted just right for your eyes. Pair this with the ravyn group bridge, and it is perfect for helmet mounting with a PVS-14. Running this unit with a battery pack makes it run for as long as you want. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. With a military discount I paid only 2400. You can’t beat the price, even without a discount. I couldn’t be happier with the sidekick 640.

    640 sidekick

I've owned this now for about a month and have been putting a lot of time on this. The picture is good both day and night (beauty of thermal), refresh rate is great, and the ability to adjust the picture to Fuze with a bridge mounted pvs14 is awesome. The color palettes each have their strengths based on your conditions however I do have an improvement. When using to get pictures or video off the device, the device will often freeze. I think the cap type could also be better as the current offered one is not great for the field. The device is truly awesome and provides a crisp clear image. I'm sure additional firmware updates could help clear up my small issue. For what I use it for, I'm pretty pleased with the pricepoint

    Sidekick 640

Posted by Robbie Hoff on Jan 14th 2024

I'd like to provide some quick feedback for Armasight on the Sidkekick 640. Waited a long time to get this little beauty but I think it was worth the wait. The unit is very light weight and pairs well with my helmet. I ran it last night for the first time and while the hogs I was trying to kill did not show up, we did notice a coyote coming across the neighbors pasture. If I had not had my sidekick on my helmet and been scanning it with it I would never have seen him coming. The 640 resolution is outstanding, even at 1x I am able to identify heat signatures the size of a coyote out to 150-200 yards and make positive IDs at 100-150. On the surface that might sound terrible but it's not, the field of view on this unit is enormous and they have to squeeze all that data into a very small screen. In all the coyote made a wide sweep and crossed the fence onto our side. Boom! Coyote down. The Sidekick really shows its strength by providing excellent situational awareness. Can't kill them if you can't see them. Screen resolution and function are great, buttons are stiff but I think they'll get better over time. My 8 year old zeus had hard buttons at first and that improved with time. Battery extender is a hit, ran it over 3 ours last night, no issue. There are a few little bugs in the software, very small and the unit catches up but once it's set there are no issues at all. I'm very pleased with the quality and performance. Highly recommend it for anyone needing to scan continuously then fold it up and go to the gun. I think 5 stars is appropriate as there are a few little issues, they do not negatively affect the performance of the unit. All in all, Kudos to Armasight, a very well made unit that performs well above it's price point. I'm very impressed.

    Awesome Quality and Functionality

Posted by Rob D on Dec 29th 2023

I have been waiting for months for the Sidekick 640 and finally got it in hand. To say that I am thrilled with it is an understatement. I love the wide FOV and the features it has. Super small and compact exactly what I needed. The support from Armasight has also been fantastic, I had a few questions on how to work some functions and they walked me through it. I am really happy with my purchase.
